When is the best time to capture your baby’s photos?

Newborn photography is most definitely an underrated art. It’s a very tedious, but oh so full of love task. Newborn photographers like myself LOVE what we do, and don’t mind the hard work. Every second is worth it in the end.

A lot of times we limit ourselves with bookings because we have to allow wiggle room for our clients. You should have your newborn session scheduled within your second trimester, to insure your photographer isn’t booked up. We all know baby comes when they want to, conveniently or not! That’s OK though when scheduling your newborn session, I just tell you to let me know when he or she arrives, and we can adjust the time and date a little to better accommodate!

So, the best time for newborn photos to be taken is between 5 and 15 days. During this stage baby is sleepy, squishy, and still flexible! This allows me to capture all those adorable sleepy poses, and show off the little biscuit rolls!

Be sure you do your research and hire a professional newborn photographer when planning your baby’s photos. There are lots of important things that goes into it that your average photographer would most likely never know. Posing a baby looks so easy in the pictures, but it’s a very knowledgable skill. You wouldn’t go to your family doctor and ask them to pull a tooth would you? I hope not, because although they are in the health field, they wouldn’t know how to properly assist and take care of you while giving you the end result you walked in there for.

Is it possible to pose a baby older than 15 days? Of course! Although, at this stage they have developed enough strength to hold their necks, move around, and resist some certain posing. A baby of that age also tends to be awake a lot more, making those cute sleepy poses harder to achieve. In this case, a lot of the newborn session can be done with wrapped posing and the assistance of certain props.

Being a motherhood, birth, and infant Photographer has really changed my world. There’s nothing I could appreciate more than a mothers power, and being able to capture it all. Infant photos are something we dont think about as often as we should, but the first few weeks of your baby’s life will absolutely fly by.
