Why you should avoid screenshotting
Screenshotting professional images may be tempting, especially when you come across captivating photography on social media or websites. However, it is important to understand why this practice should be avoided. Professional photographers invest their time, effort, and skill to capture and create these images, often offering their work for sale or licensing. Screenshotting a professional image without permission not only disrespects their intellectual property rights but also undermines their ability to make a living from their craft. Instead, consider supporting photographers by purchasing or licensing their work legally, respecting their creativity, and encouraging the continuation of their artistry.
Assuming your photographer sends you High-Resolution Images, social media has to compress these files before posting- like Facebook.
So when posting, they won’t be as clear as they are on your device since the images are compressed to a smaller size format. They will look slightly blurry.
Now, taking a screenshot will also reduce quality and give you a lower resolution on your device. Let’s add that to the low quality that happens when posting on social media as well- it’s just going to look like shit. And your photographer will not appreciate that as it does not look like their work anymore. Not to mention if you tag them (which you ALWAYS should!) people will recognize the extra horrible quality and make a mental note that the photographer of which you are tagging doesn’t do a good job. And just like how good words spread, negative words spread faster and this can affect your photographers booking and income.
So just do the right thing!
